39.5.6

Then the Bhagavat told the bhikṣus: “What are called the seven stations of consciousness? Namely, sentient beings with diverse bodies and diverse perceptions, that is, human beings and [some] devas. Furthermore, sentient beings with diverse bodies and a single perception, that is, the devas of the Brahmakāyika realm when first appearing in the world. Furthermore, sentient beings with a single body and diverse perceptions, that is, the devas of the Ābhāsvara realm. Furthermore, sentient beings with a single body and a single perception, that is, the devas of the Śubhakṛtsna realm. Furthermore, sentient beings [dwelling in] boundless space, the devas of the sphere of the infinity of space (ākāśānantyāyatana). Furthermore, sentient beings [dwelling in] boundless consciousness, the devas of the sphere of the infinity of consciousness (vijñānānantyāyatana). Furthermore, sentient beings [dwelling in] nothingness, the devas of the sphere of nothingness (ākiṃcanyāyatana). These are called, bhikṣus, the seven stations of consciousness. I have now spoken of the seven stations of consciousness. What the Buddha-Bhagavats should perform to deliver the people has today been accomplished. You should be in quiet seclusion under trees, cultivate your practice well, and not be indolent. This is my instruction.”
