The Buddha told Kāśyapa, “Yesterday, you had the thought, ‘This ascetic Gautama has a handsome countenance; it’s extraordinary for this world. Tomorrow will be my large sacrifice. If the king and the people see him, they’ll stop supporting me. It would be a great fortune if that ascetic didn’t come.’ I immediately knew that thought in your mind, so I went to Uttarakuru to get some naturally cooked rice, went to Godānīya for milk, and then went to Lake Anavatapta to eat. At the end of the day, I returned to the cave at sunset to spend the night.”
