24. The suffixes -pitā and -mātā mean “father” and “mother” respectively. In Tibetan, the names are also rendered with the prefixes pha (“father”) and ma (“mother”). A possible implication of these suffixes/prefixes is that the couple were already elderly at the time of this discourse with the Buddha.
