1.3

一時，佛在舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園。爾時有大苾芻眾，持鉢食時詣迦里梨道場，共坐思惟：「過去世時有何佛出現，族姓壽量其義云何？」如是思已，互相推問而不能知。

At one time, the Buddha was staying in Śrāvastī at the Jetavana Anāthapiṇḍadārāma. At that time, a great community of bhikṣus, taking their bowls at mealtime, went to the Karerikuṭikā and sat together, contemplating: "Which Buddhas appeared in past ages? What were their clans, gotras, and lifespans?" Having contemplated this, they questioned one another, yet could not know.
