382.4

At that time the Bhagavat addressed the bhikṣus: "There are four noble truths. What are the four? They are the noble truth of duḥkha, the noble truth of the origin of duḥkha, the noble truth of the cessation of duḥkha, and the noble truth of the path leading to the cessation of duḥkha. A bhikṣu should know and understand the noble truth of duḥkha; he should know and abandon the noble truth of the origin of duḥkha; he should know and realize the noble truth of the cessation of duḥkha; and he should know and cultivate the noble truth of the path leading to the cessation of duḥkha."

It was then that the Bhagavān addressed the monks, “There are four noble truths. What are the four? They are the noble truth of suffering, the noble truth of suffering’s formation, the noble truth of suffering’s cessation, and the noble truth of the path to suffering’s cessation.

Charles Patton, The Connected Discourses (selected sūtras)

“Supposing that a monk will know the noble truth of suffering, then he will understand [suffering] … will know the noble truth of suffering’s formation, then he will end [its formation] … will know the noble truth of suffering’s cessation, then he will realize [its cessation] … will know the noble truth of the path to suffering’s cessation, then he will cultivate [that path].”
