One notable difference in this version seems to be that the bodhisattva abandons his bodhisattva path after seeing a child who had died due to insufficent breastmilk. The Sanskrit text, however, has not been published yet; the Sanskrit edition by Kanga Takahata is based on another recension of the Ratna­mālāvadāna that does not contain the story of King Kanakavarṇa.
