intro.44

All the Dunhuang manuscripts that we have been able to examine contain the “two oṁ” version of the dhāraṇī.³³ This fact, combined with the evidence from Minling Terchen, makes it very likely that the present version of the text, the “three oṁ” version, is the translation dating from the later translation period, while Toh 675, the “two oṁ” version, is more closely related to the one originally made in the early translation period.
