Lindtner states that Nāgārjuna had adopted these verses from the BhSS, while Tola and Dragonetti suggest that it may have been the other way around, and that while the prose section certainly predates Nāgārjuna’s work, it is possible that some of the verses, being later additions, were drawn from the śāstra.
