"Kāśyapa, it is like the plants, trees, thickets, forests, and medicinal herbs growing on the mountains, rivers, ravines, valleys, and lands of the three-thousand great thousandfold world, of many kinds, each differing in name and appearance. A dense cloud spreads everywhere, completely covering the three-thousand great thousandfold world, raining down equally all at once, its moisture permeating everywhere. The plants, trees, thickets, forests, and medicinal herbs—with small roots, small stalks, small branches, and small leaves; medium roots, medium stalks, medium branches, and medium leaves; or large roots, large stalks, large branches, and large leaves—and trees large and small, each according to their high, medium, or low [nature], receive a share. From what is rained by the one cloud, each according to its species grows, develops, blossoms, and bears fruit. Although grown from the same earth and moistened by the same rain, the grasses and trees are each distinct.
