爾時會中新發意菩薩八千人，咸作是念：「我等尚不聞諸大菩薩得如是記，有何因緣而諸聲聞得如是決？」
At that time, in the assembly, eight thousand Bodhisattvas who had newly generated the resolve [for awakening] all had this thought: 'We have not yet heard even great Bodhisattvas receive such predictions; what is the cause and condition for these śrāvakas to receive such a decree?'
