The Buddha addressed the monks: "The lifespan of Mahābhijñājñānābhibhū Buddha was five million four hundred thousand billion nayutas of kalpas. When that buddha originally sat at the bodhimaṇḍa and crushed the māra armies, he was on the verge of attaining anuttarā samyaksambodhi, yet the buddha-dharmas did not appear before him. Thus for one minor kalpa and up to ten minor kalpas, he sat cross-legged with body and mind unmoved, yet the buddha-dharmas still did not appear before him. At that time, the gods of Trāyastriṃśa had previously arranged a lion throne for that buddha under the bodhi tree, one yojana high; on this throne the buddha was to attain anuttarā samyaksambodhi. As soon as he sat upon this throne, the Brahmā kings rained down various heavenly flowers over an area of a hundred yojanas, and fragrant breezes from time to time blew away the withered flowers and rained down fresh ones. Without ceasing in this manner for a full ten minor kalpas, they made offerings to the buddha, and down to his nirvāṇa they constantly rained down these flowers. The gods of the Four Heavenly Kings constantly beat heavenly drums to make offerings to the buddha, and the other gods performed heavenly instrumental music for a full ten minor kalpas, and up to his nirvāṇa it was likewise."
