At that time, the Buddha addressed the host of bodhisattvas headed by Viśiṣṭacāritra: "Such are the divine powers of the Buddhas, immeasurable, boundless, and inconceivable. If I, with these divine powers, through immeasurable, boundless hundreds of thousands of myriads of koṭis of asaṃkhyeya kalpas, were to proclaim the merits of this sūtra for the purpose of entrusting it, I still could not exhaust them. In short, all the teachings possessed by the Tathāgata, all the sovereign divine powers of the Tathāgata, all the storehouse of profound secrets of the Tathāgata, and all the extremely profound matters of the Tathāgata are all proclaimed, revealed, and clearly expounded in this sūtra. Therefore, after the nirvāṇa of the Tathāgata, you should single-mindedly accept, uphold, read, recite, explain, copy, and practice it as taught. In whatever land it may be, whether there are those who accept, uphold, read, recite, explain, copy, and practice it as taught, or wherever a copy of the sūtra may reside—whether in a garden, in a forest, under a tree, in a monastery, in a layperson's house, in a palace or hall, or in a mountain valley or wilderness—a stūpa should be erected there and offerings made. Why is this? You should know that this place is a bodhimaṇḍa. Here the Buddhas attain anuttarā samyaksambodhi; here the Buddhas turn the dharmacakra; here the Buddhas enter parinirvāṇa."
