The sūtra says: 'You bhikṣus! If you have wisdom, there will be no greedy attachment. Constantly examining yourselves, do not allow any lapse. Then you will be able to attain liberation in my Dharma. If you do not, you will neither be a person of the Path nor a layperson in white robes, having no name at all. Real wisdom is a sturdy ship for crossing the ocean of old age, sickness, and death; it is also a great bright lamp in the darkness of ignorance, excellent medicine for all sick persons, and a sharp axe for felling the tree of kleśas. Therefore, you should increase your own benefit through the wisdom of hearing, contemplation, and cultivation. If a person has the illumination of wisdom, though possessing only the fleshly eye, they are a person of clear vision. This is wisdom.'
