It is also said in the noble Sāgaramatisūtra: “Furthermore, Blessed One, a bodhisattva is a forest dweller, delighting in remote beds and seats, having few desires, contented, solitary, unassociated with householders and renunciants. He dwells happily because of having few concerns and few duties, but he is not devoted to the pursuit of great erudition, not to maturing sentient beings, nor does he think he should go when a Dharma teaching, Dharma conversation, or discussion settling meaning is taking place; he is not of an inquiring nature; he is not devoted to ‘What is wholesome?’ Due to his forest dwelling and his delight in taking pleasure in solitude, afflictions do not manifest in him; he finds satisfaction merely through suppressing their active eruptions, and he does not cultivate the path for eradicating latent tendencies. In that state he is not acting for his own welfare, nor for the welfare of others. Blessed One, this is the bodhisattva’s seventh hook of Māra connected with forest dwelling,” and so on.
