It is also said in the noble Ugradattaparipṛcchā: "What is given no longer needs to be guarded; what is in the house must be guarded. What is given leads to the destruction of thirst; what is in the house increases thirst. What is given is free of clinging; what is in the house brings clinging. What is given is fearless; what is in the house brings fear. What is given supports the path of awakening; what is in the house supports Māra. What is given is imperishable; what is in the house is perishable. From what is given comes happiness; regarding what is in the house there is suffering. What is given serves to renounce afflictions; what is in the house increases afflictions. What is given leads to great wealth; what is in the house does not lead to great wealth. What is given is the deed of a noble person; what is in the house is the deed of a base person. What is given wins the hearts of noble persons; what is in the house wins the hearts of base persons. What is given is praised by all Buddhas; what is in the house is praised by childish fools."
