As is said in the Bodhisattvaprātimokṣa: 'These four things, Śāriputra, are not found among bodhisattvas. Which four? Deceit is not found among bodhisattvas; stinginess is not found among bodhisattvas; jealous malice is not found among bodhisattvas; and the sluggish mind [thinking], "I am not able to awaken to unexcelled, complete, and perfect awakening," is not found among bodhisattvas. Śāriputra, he in whom these four things are found should be known by the wise: "Alas, he is a pretender! Alas, he is a flatterer! Alas, his Dharma is ruined! Alas, he is of defiled nature! Alas, he values worldly material gains! Alas, he is intent only on food and rags!" Thus indeed, Śāriputra, bodhisattvas are brave in mind. Up to: he is a relinquisher of his own hands, a relinquisher of feet, a relinquisher of nose, a relinquisher of head, a relinquisher of limbs and minor appendages, a relinquisher of sons, a relinquisher of daughters, a relinquisher of wives, a relinquisher of pleasure, a relinquisher of retinue, a relinquisher of mind, a relinquisher of happiness, a relinquisher of home, a relinquisher of goods, a relinquisher of country, a relinquisher of jewels, a relinquisher of all belongings.'
