"The Buddha-Dharma is free from all characteristics;
Phenomena abide in the state of phenomena.
What is expounded is beyond comparison,
Signless, unconditioned, without activity.
For what reason, O Greatly Diligent One,
Do you speak of these characteristics
And the mantra practice,
Not conforming to the way of phenomena as they are?"
At that time, the Bhagavat,
Vairocana Buddha,
Addressed the vajradhara Vajrapāṇi:
"Listen well to the characteristics of phenomena!
Phenomena are free from discrimination
And all false conceptualizations.
If one purifies false conceptualizations
And all mental activities and arisings,
I attain the supreme right awakening,
Ultimately like empty space.
What the foolish and ignorant do not know
Are wrongly grasped objects:
Time, direction, characteristics, and so forth,
Desires covered by ignorance;
In order to deliver them,
I speak in accordance with upāya,
Yet in reality there is neither time nor direction,
No action and no agent;
All those phenomena
Abide solely in the true characteristic.
Furthermore, Guhyakādhipati,
In the times of the future,
Sentient beings of inferior wisdom,
Blindfolded by ignorance and craving,
Will rely only on attachment to existence,
Always taking pleasure in annihilation and permanence,
Karma created according to time and place,
Wholesome and unwholesome characteristics,
Blind and dark, delighting in seeking fruits,
Not knowing or understanding this path;
For the sake of delivering them,
I speak this Dharma in accordance with [their capacities]."
