humans; and from that moment on, I knew that I had fully awakened to unsurpassed, complete, and perfect enlightenment.' When this discourse on the Dharma was spoken, the dust-free, stainless Dharma eye arose in the venerable Kauṇḍinya and eighty thousand devas regarding all dharmas. Then the Bhagavān said to the venerable Kauṇḍinya: 'Kauṇḍinya, have you understood the Dharma?' 'Bhagavān, I have understood.' 'Kauṇḍinya, have you understood the Dharma?' 'Sugata, I have understood.' Because the venerable Kauṇḍinya fully understood the Dharma, the name of the venerable Kauṇḍinya became Ājñātakauṇḍinya. When the venerable Kauṇḍinya fully understood the Dharma, the terrestrial yakṣas cried out and proclaimed: 'Friends! In the Deer Park at Ṛṣipatana in the land of Vārāṇasī, the Bhagavān has turned the Wheel of Dharma—which is harmonious with the Dharma, turned thrice in twelve aspects, and has not been turned in accordance with the Dharma by any śramaṇa, brāhmaṇa, deva, Māra, or Brahmā in the world—for the benefit of the multitude, for the happiness of the multitude, out of compassion for the world, for the welfare, benefit, and happiness of gods and humans; through this, the realm of the devas will flourish, and the realm of the asuras will decline!' The sound of the terrestrial yakṣas was heard by the sky-dwelling yakṣas, the gods of the Four Great Kings, the Trāyastriṃśa gods, the Yāma gods, the Tuṣita gods, the Nirmāṇarati gods, and the Paranirmitavaśavartin gods; and in that very second, that instant, that moment, and during that second, instant, and moment, the sound resounded up to the Brahmā world. The gods of the Brahmā realm cried out and proclaimed: 'Friends! By the Bhagavān, for gods and humans...' up to 'this in the land of Vārāṇasī...'
