42. In the Āpastamba Dharmasūtra (ca. fourth or fifth century bce), parivrājaka is one of four lifestyles (Skt. āśrama) available to someone who has spent time as an apprentice or a disciple to a religious teacher (Bronkhorst, 1998, 5). See also Dutt (1924, 30–56).
