10. The Skt. verb anu√jñā, usually translated gnang ba/rjes su gnang ba, covers a range of meanings, such as “allow” and “order.” The present translation adopts “authorize” as the translation of the verb in the context of Vinaya rules. Cf. Yao 2015, 221n15.
