Then donors who already knew there was doubt and danger nevertheless brought food. The bhikṣus doubted and did not dare to accept the food. The Buddha said: 'From this day forward, I permit the bhikṣus to accept such food.' Then sick bhikṣus also doubted and did not dare to accept such food. The Buddha said: 'From this day forward, I permit sick bhikṣus to accept such food.' Then there were donors who placed the food on the ground to give it, or instructed another person to give it. The bhikṣus doubted and did not dare to accept it. The Buddha said: 'From this day forward, I permit the bhikṣus to accept such food. From this day forward, the precept should be recited thus: "If a bhikṣu stays in an araṇya, a remote place of doubt and danger—if a bhikṣu dwells in such an araṇya place, and does not inform the donors in advance, and, without accepting food outside the saṅghārāma, accepts food with his own hand inside the saṅghārāma while not being sick, and eats it, he should confess to another bhikṣu, saying: 'Venerable sir, I have committed a blameworthy offense; I now confess to the venerable sir.' This rule is called a pratideśanīya rule."'
