“Next, visualize direct entry into the world of the maṇḍala. In the center, the main lord is Lord Tobatsu, the Heavenly King Vaiśravaṇa, dwelling atop Mount Sumeru, with three yakṣa-rākṣasīs beneath the mountain. The Great Heavenly King wears a large, long broadsword at his waist. To the east is Bull Head (Gośīrṣa), whose front face is exceedingly terrifying, with eleven terrifying faces atop his head, each bearing ox horns that project forth as ornamentation. To the left and right of his front face there is also one face each, which likewise have a terrifying appearance. His garments resemble those of Śakra Devānām Indra; he dwells upon lotus petals, holding a long, large spear in his left hand and a broadsword in his right hand. To the left of Bull Head's direction is the Divine King Vajragarbha, squatting on a heavenly golden seat, clad in armor, with garments resembling Dhṛtarāṣṭra, with his palms joined. The hair of his head rises to the sky like blazing fire; on his left side, a large spear stands upright on the ground. Below the seat on the left is the Divine King of Ghostly Spirits Who Bestows Blessings; he has the form of a great spirit, naked, with blazing hair on his head, pulling his own hair with his left hand, and shouldering a great club with his right hand, paying homage to the Divine King Vajragarbha. To the right of Bull Head is the Lord Heavenly Divine King, fully endowed with a jeweled crown, necklaces, and heavenly garments, his bodily marks and handsome features equal to Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva, dwelling upon a four-petaled lotus; that is, he has the heavenly appearance corresponding to Mahāvairocana Tathāgata, his mudrā being joined palms. Below his seat on the right is the Divine King Who Bestows Rank; his bodily form is like that of the Heavenly King Who Bestows Blessings, except that he grasps his hair with his right hand and shoulders a club with his left hand. In the south, to the right of the central lord, are three figures: first, the deva Mici, who appears in armor, holding a bell in his left hand and a five-pronged vajra in his right hand; next, the deva Henbisu, grasping a bell in his left hand and a single-pronged vajra in his right hand; next, the deva Bōchi, using a three-pronged vajra in his left and right hands. Next, to the left of the central lord, that is in the north, is first the deva Hirei, with a sword in his right hand and a golden cakra in his left hand; next, King Mōto, with a club in his right hand and a sword in his left hand; next, King Hige, with a long spear in his left hand and a short spear in his right hand. The above six devas all stand upon stone seats. Next, above the central lord is the Female Attendant of Affairs, dwelling on a golden seat like Lakṣmī, with a box in her left hand and a wish-fulfilling jewel in her right hand. To the right of that woman, the first is the deva Ryōji, with a spear in his left hand and a battle-axe in his right hand; next is the Divine King Bisu, holding single-pronged vajras in his left and right hands. On the left is first the deva Tanikan, making fists with his left and right hands, each fang pointing toward his chest, with a spear standing on his left side; next is the deva Jisō, with a blade in his right hand and a spear in his left hand. Next, in the northeast corner of the four directions is the Heavenly King Katsuto, with a bow in his left hand and two arrows in his right hand; next is the deva Sōkō, with joined palms and a spear standing on his left side; next is the deva Demon King, with a spear in his left hand and a sword in his right hand, not yet touching the ground; next is King Kumāra, with a sword in his left hand and a club in his right hand, with a spear standing on his left side; next is the Heavenly King Tokutatsu, with a bow in his left hand and an arrow in his right hand, with a spear standing on his left; next is the deva Master of the Abode, holding a bow horizontally against his chest with his left hand, and wielding an arrow with his right hand. Fashioning [them] thus up to this point is the world of direct entry. From King Ryōji to the Heavenly King Master of the Abode, all squat on the right seats, all clad in armor, their faces not permitting men to behold them—terrifying aspects; these are the great general divine kings. The general mudrā of direct entry into this realm: join the two hands with palms together; open and raise the two earth fingers, and touch the five locations. Recite the great intention that the host of great generals will grant adhiṣṭhāna and protection. That vidyā is:
