"Recite the spell six times, tie three knots in a five-colored thread, and tie it to both hands. The power of this great dhāraṇī spell can reduce all the earth elements in this Jambudvīpa to fine dust; it can do the same in Pūrvavideha and Aparagodānīya, drying up the ocean waters, shattering Mount Sumeru to fine dust, and then restoring them again to their original state without difference. When the various heavy sins of the fetters and habitual defilements of practitioners cause them to be swept away by the river of craving and drowned in birth and death with no one capable of awakening them, I will now, through the power of this great dhāraṇī spell, haul them in and rescue them to lead them out of the three realms, extinguishing the fire of the fetters with the river of the Great Vehicle, moistening and soaking them with the ointment of dhyāna-concentration, and planting the roots and sprouts of unexcelled awakening, causing all sentient beings to reap the fruits. The power of this dhāraṇī is also like this. If sentient beings in their present life wish to cultivate this dhāraṇī and attain the knowledge of past lives up to four hundred births, and affairs of future lifetimes up to four hundred births, they will be able to know them all. Regarding affairs of the present lifetime, they will know the mental objects of others' minds, astronomy and geography, illustrated texts, and prophetic records; and they will know the dying here and being born there of all sentient beings, knowing them all up to four hundred births. They should receive, uphold, read, and recite this dhāraṇī; they should be diligent, purely uphold the ground of morality, have few desires and be content, cultivate a straightforward mind, reduce their sleep during the six intervals of the day and night, cultivate it with diligence, moderate their food, and speak little; then up to six years they will certainly achieve the result. First they will attain the knowledge of past lives, next they will attain the knowledge of non-arising, and later they will attain the knowledge of others' minds, thoroughly penetrating all past, present, and future events that have not yet occurred. Having attained this knowledge of past lives, through the power of the dhāraṇī, the wisdom they attain will be equal to and no different from that of a bodhisattva of the fifth stage."
