This dhāraṇī was spoken by seventy-two koṭis of past Buddhas, and I now have spoken it. In order to protect the true Dharma, to deliver sentient beings, to bring about the virtue of practitioners following the myriad practices, to cause those śrāvakas who have not yet realised the fruits to attain the fruits, to cause pratyekabuddhas to cross the great river of the twelve links of dependent origination and rescue the multitude of beings, and to cause bodhisattvas from their initial resolve up to the tenth stage to realise the fruit of their vows—for these reasons I speak this dhāraṇī. Furthermore, by the power of this dhāraṇī, sentient beings within the great trichiliocosm who are in darkness and the three wretched realms, once this dhāraṇī passes by their ears, will universally attain the knowledge of past lives, and up to fourteen births will all attain liberation. If there are good men or good women who wish to cultivate and practice this dhāraṇī, they should for three sevens—twenty-one days—cleanse and bathe themselves, put on fresh, clean clothes, and either in a stūpa or on clean ground, in the latter part of the night when the morning star appears, say to this morning star of the great hour: 'Speak for me to Ākāśagarbha Bodhisattva.' Say this three times. 'Eliminate my fundamental sins.' Say this three times. 'Eliminate my sins that obstruct the Path.' Say this three times. 'Bestow upon me the four fruits of śramaṇahood.' Say this three times. I will at that time go to their location, stand before that person, and confer the four fruits of śramaṇahood upon them: 'I vow to bestow them.' Say this three times. Burn agarwood incense. If in a dream one obtains an āmalaka fruit, a harītakī fruit, a bimbijāla fruit, a vibhītaka fruit, or an apricot or the like, then one should be diligent and energetic. If one dreams of an egg or a roll or the like, one will attain it at once. When the morning star appears, recite the mantra seven times; if one's mind is in good condition, recite it seventy times. Ākāśagarbha Bodhisattva constantly travels through the lands so that practitioners may follow the myriad practices; this is called following the myriad practices.
