爾時佛在娑羅林中，告文殊師利法王子：「阿難比丘今去此會十二由旬，為六萬四千億魔之所惱亂。汝可往彼發大聲言：『一切諸魔諦聽諦聽，如來今說大陀羅尼句。天、龍、夜叉、乾闥婆、阿修羅、迦樓羅、緊那羅、摩睺羅伽、人與非人、山神、樹神、河神、海神、舍宅等神，一切善聽。』」即說呪曰：
At that time the Buddha was in the śāla grove. He addressed the Dharma Prince Mañjuśrī: 'The monk Ānanda is now twelve yojanas away from this assembly, troubled and deranged by sixty-four thousand billion māras. You may go there and proclaim in a great voice: "All you māras, listen attentively, listen attentively! The Tathāgata now proclaims great dhāraṇī-phrases. Devas, nāgas, yakṣas, gandharvas, asuras, garuḍas, kiṃnaras, mahoragas, humans and non-humans, mountain spirits, tree spirits, river spirits, ocean spirits, house spirits, and all other spirits—all of you, listen well!"' He then spoke the mantra, saying:
