The phrases of this dhāraṇī have been spoken by Buddhas as numerous as the sands of the Gaṅgā. If anyone writes down, reads, and recites this dhāraṇī, all of this person's grave evil and deep retributive obscurations and karmic obscurations spanning eons as numerous as the sands of the Gaṅgā, as well as the sins of the five heinous offenses and the icchantika, will be extinguished without remainder. Sentient beings' grave illnesses, path-obstructing sins and defilements, and karmic taints, upon hearing it spoken, will all be extinguished without remainder. Wherever those who write down, read, and recite it go—into states, cities, villages, mountains, forests, hills, or tombs—if the sentient beings therein hear the name of this dhāraṇī pass their ears even once, after their lives end they will all be reborn in Abhirati, and up until attaining Buddhahood they will not fall into the three wretched realms. To practice the ritual of this mantra: on the sixteenth day of the fourth month, inside an eastward-facing stupa, circumambulate the stupa eighty times in one day; stand beneath the west wall of the stupa facing east, and recite the mantra twenty-four times, going without sleep for up to seven days and seven nights. One must use seven sesame oil lamps or hemp oil lamps, placing them at the four corners of the stupa. Bathe cleanly and put on fresh, clean clothes; do not consume alcohol, meat, or the five pungent roots; eat one meal at midday. I will then appear before that person, emit great radiance, stroke the crown of their head with a golden hand, and immediately bestow vyākaraṇa upon them; all of that person's karmic obscurations and sinful defilements will be extinguished without remainder.
