These dhāraṇī phrases were spoken by ninety-nine koṭis of past Buddhas. The ninety-nine koṭis of Buddhas caused all practitioners cultivating the six perfections who had not yet generated the mind [for bodhi], śrāvakas who had not yet realised the fruits, and ṛṣis within the great trichiliocosm who had not yet generated the mind of unsurpassed bodhi to generate the mind. For ordinary beings who have not yet attained faithful minds, I use seeds to cause the sprout of Dharma to grow. By the majestic spiritual power of this dhāraṇī and by the majestic spiritual power of my skillful means, all that they cultivate will be fully accomplished. Furthermore, beings within the great trichiliocosm who are in dark obscurity, hindered, and in the three wretched realms, upon hearing this dhāraṇī of mine, will all have their suffering eliminated. Moreover, bodhisattvas who have not yet reached the first dwelling will be caused to attain the first dwelling, and successively up to the tenth dwelling. Those who have already attained the first ten dwellings and stages, having already obtained the influence and power of this dhāraṇī, will in a single thought-moment proceed straight to the stage of Buddhahood, naturally perfecting the thirty-two marks and eighty minor signs. If a śrāvaka hears this dhāraṇī once pass by their ears, reads, recites, copies, and cultivates this dhāraṇī, and abides according to the Dharma with a straightforward mind, they will attain the four fruits of śramaṇahood without seeking them. By the power of this dhāraṇī, the mountains, rivers, and stone walls of the great trichiliocosm, and the waters of the four great oceans can be made to surge and boil, and Mount Sumeru and the Cakravāḍa mountains can be reduced to fine dust. If among the sentient beings there are bodhisattvas and śrāvakas undergoing spiritual practice whose bodies are afflicted with suffering from obstructions to the Path, I will rescue them all and enable them to escape distress, causing all that they cultivate to be accomplished. If there are sentient beings who seek what they desire in this present life and cultivate the dhāraṇī, they should for three sevens—twenty-one days—purely uphold the precepts on [clean] ground, practice the Path during the six periods of day and night, burn various fine incenses, scatter five-colored flowers, repent before the ten directions, blame themselves for their sins and faults, and feel remorse and shame from the limits of birth and death to the limits of birth and death. At that time, invoke my name, Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva, three times, burn incense, scatter flowers, bow their heads in supplication, repent their transgressions, and blame themselves; all grave sins of koṭis of hundreds of thousands of kalpas will in a single thought-moment be entirely extinguished, purifying body, speech, and mind. At that time, they should recite this dhāraṇī three sevens—twenty-one times—during the six periods each day, from the first day up to the seventh day, up to three sevens—twenty-one days. For those of dull faculties who have not yet attained the first fruit, I will at that time bestow upon them the first fruit, the second, the third, and up to the fourth fruit, according to their sharp or dull faculties and corresponding stages. If bodhisattvas who wish to advance toward the stages of realization are obstructed and do not progress, practicing according to the Dharma they will immediately attain the stages of realization, just as in the previous method. Now that I have spoken these dhāraṇī phrases, the Buddhas, great bodhisattvas, Śakra, Brahmā, the Four Heavenly Kings, ṛṣis, and nāga kings within the great trichiliocosm all witness and know that the great vow is fulfilled; the fruit of the vow is not in vain, but truly thus.
