This great dhāraṇī-mantra can cause kings and realms all to be completely peaceful and secure; the averting of disasters and warding off of misfortunes are entirely due to this. All practitioners and those with diseases should read and recite it, making themselves fully fluent in it. If one wishes to practice the dhāraṇī: first, abstain from alcohol; second, abstain from meat; third, abstain from pungent roots. During three weeks, bathe with fragrant water and put on new, clean clothes. In a stūpa or in an empty, quiet place, set up a Buddha image, burn incense, scatter flowers, stay away from crowds and clamor, and diligently read and recite it during the six periods of the day, repenting before the ten directions with shame and self-reproach. Having purified body and mouth, one should read and recite it twenty-one times in each period. Having recited it, remain silent and single-mindedly contemplate me, the ṛṣi Yinghuo: 'Bodhisattva of the Five Abodes, I now take refuge.' Speak this three times. Having spoken thus, sit in silence. I will then go to that place, causing whatever is sought to be fully accomplished, and will also bestow a wish-fulfilling jewel to extinguish the fire of defilements. Disasters and omens of the realm, abundance and scarcity, and pestilential vapors will all be averted. You should know that this is the power of the great dhāraṇī-mantra.
