"Venerable sisters! The seventeen saṅghāvaśeṣa rules have been spoken: nine are offenses upon initial commission, and eight upon the third admonition. If a bhikṣuṇī commits any one of these offenses, she must perform the mānatva for half a month in both saṅghas, and then proceed to the ābhirhaṇa. Having performed it according to the Dharma, she must be rehabilitated in both saṅghas, each having twenty members. If there is even one person fewer, it is not called rehabilitation, and the bhikṣuṇīs are also blameworthy. Such is the rule in this case. Now I ask the venerable sisters: are you pure in this?" (A second and a third time it is spoken likewise.) "The venerable sisters are pure in this, because of their silence; thus is this matter maintained."
