1.65

上高座讀經有五事：一者當先禮佛；二者當禮經法上座；三者當先一足躡阿僧提上正住坐；四者當還向上座；五者先手安座乃却坐已。

There are five matters regarding ascending the high seat to recite sūtras: first, one must first pay homage to the Buddha; second, one must pay homage to the sūtras and Dharma and to the sthaviras; third, one must first step with one foot onto the footstool and stand upright before sitting; fourth, one must turn to face the sthaviras; fifth, one must first steady the seat with one's hand and only then sit back.
