There are five matters where one should not pay homage: first, when returning from the privy, one must not pay homage to others on the way, nor should one receive homage from others; second, when a sthavira is lying down, one must not pay homage to him, nor should one receive homage from others; third, when a sthavira is washing or rinsing his mouth, one must not pay homage to him, nor when rinsing one's own mouth should one receive homage from others; fourth, when a sthavira has not finished clearing his tray, one must not pay homage to him, nor when the tray before oneself has not been cleared should one receive homage from others; fifth, when a sthavira is eating, one must not pay homage to him, nor while oneself is eating should one receive homage from others.
