佛告佛子：「『從今身至佛身，盡未來際，於其中間不得故殺生。若有犯，非菩薩行、失四十二賢聖法。不得犯。能持不？』其受者答言：『能。』『佛子！從今身至佛身，盡未來際，於其中間不得故妄語。若有犯，非菩薩行、失四十二賢聖法。不得犯。能持不？』其受者答言：『能。』『佛子！從今身至佛身，盡未來際，於其中間不得故婬。若有犯，非菩薩行、失四十二賢聖法。不得犯。能持不？』其受者答言：『能。』『佛子！從今身至佛身，盡未來際，於其中間不得故盜。若有犯，非菩薩行、失四十二賢聖法。不得犯。能持不？』其受者答言：『能。』『佛子！從今身至佛身，盡未來際，於其中間不得沽酒。若有犯，非菩薩行、失四十二賢聖法。不得犯。能持不？』其受者答言：『能。』『佛子！從今身至佛身，盡未來際，於其中間不得故說在家出家菩薩罪過。若有犯，非菩薩行、失四十二賢聖法。不得犯。能持不？』其受者答言：『能。』『佛子！從今身至佛身，盡未來際，於其中間不得故慳。若有犯，非菩薩行、失四十二賢聖法。不得犯。能持不？』其受者答言：『能。』『佛子！從今身至佛身，盡未來際，於其中間不得故瞋。若有犯，非菩薩行、失四十二賢聖法。不得犯。能持不？』其受者答言：『能。』『佛子！從今身至佛身，盡未來際，於其中間不得故自讚毀他。若有犯，非菩薩行、失四十二賢聖法。不得犯。能持不？』其受者答言：『能。』『佛子！從今身至佛身，盡未來際，於其中間不得故謗三寶藏。若有犯，非菩薩行、失四十二賢聖法。不得犯。能持不？』其受者答言：『能。』

The Buddha told the disciples of the Buddha: "'From this present body until the Buddha body, extending to the limit of the future, between these [times] you must not intentionally kill living beings. If there is a transgression, it is not bodhisattva practice, and you lose the Dharma of the forty-two worthy and noble stages. You must not transgress. Can you maintain it or not?' The recipient replies: 'I can.' 'Disciples of the Buddha! From this present body until the Buddha body, extending to the limit of the future, between these [times] you must not intentionally speak falsely. If there is a transgression, it is not bodhisattva practice, and you lose the Dharma of the forty-two worthy and noble stages. You must not transgress. Can you maintain it or not?' The recipient replies: 'I can.' 'Disciples of the Buddha! From this present body until the Buddha body, extending to the limit of the future, between these [times] you must not intentionally engage in sexual misconduct. If there is a transgression, it is not bodhisattva practice, and you lose the Dharma of the forty-two worthy and noble stages. You must not transgress. Can you maintain it or not?' The recipient replies: 'I can.' 'Disciples of the Buddha! From this present body until the Buddha body, extending to the limit of the future, between these [times] you must not intentionally steal. If there is a transgression, it is not bodhisattva practice, and you lose the Dharma of the forty-two worthy and noble stages. You must not transgress. Can you maintain it or not?' The recipient replies: 'I can.' 'Disciples of the Buddha! From this present body until the Buddha body, extending to the limit of the future, between these [times] you must not trade in liquor. If there is a transgression, it is not bodhisattva practice, and you lose the Dharma of the forty-two worthy and noble stages. You must not transgress. Can you maintain it or not?' The recipient replies: 'I can.' 'Disciples of the Buddha! From this present body until the Buddha body, extending to the limit of the future, between these [times] you must not intentionally speak of the faults of lay and monastic bodhisattvas. If there is a transgression, it is not bodhisattva practice, and you lose the Dharma of the forty-two worthy and noble stages. You must not transgress. Can you maintain it or not?' The recipient replies: 'I can.' 'Disciples of the Buddha! From this present body until the Buddha body, extending to the limit of the future, between these [times] you must not intentionally be stingy. If there is a transgression, it is not bodhisattva practice, and you lose the Dharma of the forty-two worthy and noble stages. You must not transgress. Can you maintain it or not?' The recipient replies: 'I can.' 'Disciples of the Buddha! From this present body until the Buddha body, extending to the limit of the future, between these [times] you must not intentionally be angry. If there is a transgression, it is not bodhisattva practice, and you lose the Dharma of the forty-two worthy and noble stages. You must not transgress. Can you maintain it or not?' The recipient replies: 'I can.' 'Disciples of the Buddha! From this present body until the Buddha body, extending to the limit of the future, between these [times] you must not intentionally praise yourself and disparage others. If there is a transgression, it is not bodhisattva practice, and you lose the Dharma of the forty-two worthy and noble stages. You must not transgress. Can you maintain it or not?' The recipient replies: 'I can.' 'Disciples of the Buddha! From this present body until the Buddha body, extending to the limit of the future, between these [times] you must not intentionally slander the treasury of the three jewels. If there is a transgression, it is not bodhisattva practice, and you lose the Dharma of the forty-two worthy and noble stages. You must not transgress. Can you maintain it or not?' The recipient replies: 'I can.'"
