Or there is a principle of a single dharma that is also profound, difficult to hold, difficult to recite, and impossible to remember (the single dharma is the dharma of emptiness, formless and without image, which cannot be guarded or held); quiet without sound, without mind and without thought, still without perception, it is the foremost emptiness, for its meaning has no duality. Because it has no appearance that can be measured, it is called difficult to hold; because it has no words that can be answered, it is called difficult to recite; because it has no thought that can be conceived, it is said to be impossible to remember. What is called the profound meaning is like this. Furthermore, a single dharma is the root of all numbers. One is the beginning of numbers, and ten is the end of numbers. Ending at ten, it begins again from one. Even reaching thousands of myriads, it always begins with one. In this way, all the ones cannot be exhausted. In the various sūtras, whether one meaning, one dharma, one practice, or one matter, each follows its kind without losing the thread; hence it is said that each follows one another without losing the thread.
