The reason why Bhikṣu Ekacitta was praised as foremost in samādhi is that this bhikṣu had practiced concentration in the past, refining it from coarse to exquisite. Now, his mastery of concentration being established, in walking he was like floating dust, and in sitting he forgot conceptual thought, with the principle of forgotten thoughts fully realized. What is the analogy? It is like someone who eats food of a hundred flavours; his mind being full and satisfied, he has no further thought of food. Even though he walks, advances, and stops, it is merely responding after being stimulated, moving only after an impulse. His name was established in reliance on concentration; hence he was called foremost in entering samādhi while sitting, rising, and walking.
