At that time, the Bhagavat sat amidst the great assembly like the disk of the sun, his radiant light blazing brilliantly and obscuring the myriad stars; like a great dragon, coiling and circling, resplendent and dazzling, so that beholding him made one's eyes dizzy and thinking of him confounded the mind; his majestic brilliance shone intensely, his appearance beyond peer or comparison. Just as the light of a firefly does not appear when the sun rises; and although the sun and moon have hundreds of thousands of rays of light, compared to Śakra, they are like a lump of ink; although Śakra has a pure, white, marvelous light, compared to all the light of the Great Brahmā King, it is like rubble compared to a night-shining maṇi jewel; although the Great Brahmā Deva King has pure and marvelous hundreds of thousands of rays of light, compared to all the light of the Tathāgata, it is also like a lump of ink. Why is this? The Tathāgata's halo of seven cubits can illuminate from afar the worlds of the ten directions. The sentient beings therein who encounter this light—the blind gain sight, the hunchbacked are straightened, the crippled gain the use of their limbs, and the errant and deluded behold the true words—in brief, all things that were unsatisfactory fulfill their wishes.
