3.14

At that time, seeing this jeweled stūpa welling up from the earth, the great assembly gave rise to a web of doubt: "By what cause and condition has this jeweled stūpa welled up from the earth?" The assembly of śrāvakas, Śāriputra and the others, exhausted their thoughts in speculation, yet still did not know. Even the bodhisattva-mahāsattvas who had long dwelt in the Sahā world, up to Maitreya Bodhisattva, also did not know.
