"Having arrived at the great sea, they secured their ships with seven iron chains and remained there for seven days. At sunrise, Crown Prince Kalyāṇamitra beat a drum and proclaimed: 'All of you people, who wishes to enter the sea? Those who will enter, remain silent. If any of you still long for your parents, brothers, wives, children, or the pleasures of Jambudvīpa, you may return home from here; do not go on my account. Why is this? In the great sea, perils are not few; among those who go, there are thousands and tens of thousands, but those who arrive are only one or two.' When he made this proclamation, the assembly remained silent. Thereupon he severed one chain and hoisted it onto the ship. Day after day he made the proclamation, and on the seventh day, he severed the seventh chain, hoisted it onto the ship, and set the sails facing the wind. By the power of the crown prince's compassionate mind and merit, there were no perils, and they reached an island in the sea, arriving at the jewel mountain. Having reached the treasure place, Crown Prince Kalyāṇamitra immediately beat the drum and proclaimed: 'You should know that the journey is remote. All of you, quickly load the precious jewels, staying for seven days at most.' He further said: 'These treasures are extremely heavy, and in Jambudvīpa they are beyond price. Do not overload, lest the ships sink and you fail to reach your destination; nor take too little, lest on this remote journey it not compensate for your toil.' When the preparations were complete, he bid farewell to the men, saying: 'All of you return safely and peacefully from here. I am about to proceed forward to fetch the maṇi jewel.'
