“At that time King Mahāprabhāsa said to the tree deity: ‘Instead of helping me, you create obstacles to wholesome phenomena.’ When the tree deity heard these words, anguish arose in its heart, and it cried out: ‘How strange! How bitter!’ In the cloudless sky, blood rained down; heaven and earth shook violently, and the sun lost its bright light. The brāhmaṇa then cut off the king’s head and took it back to his own country. Then the five hundred princes and the various ministers gathered the remaining bones of King Mahāprabhāsa and erected a stūpa to make offerings to them.”
