"Ānanda fully proclaimed the Tathāgata's earnest instruction. Having heard it, the lady had sorrow and joy intermingled: 'My body is an impermanent body, yet today I am finally able to exchange it for a precious body; my life is presently decaying and perishing from thought to thought, constantly changing and unfixed, yet only today do I exchange it for a precious life; the body, life, and wealth that I possess are shared among many conditions and have no true master, yet today I am finally able to exchange them for precious wealth.' Because I contemplated such benefits of merit, I deeply gave rise to thoughts of reverence and making offerings toward Ānanda. I said: 'Venerable Ānanda! May you have no concern! The Tathāgata's secret teaching shall be practiced completely; even if I should lose body and life, I shall never backslide from it.' The Tathāgata then proclaimed the subtle eight dharmas of respect, which are difficult to transgress.
