論曰：凡集一代諸契經中種種異文，總有六種。云何為六？一者大乘本法契經中作如是說：無上大覺尊說入涅盤緣，馬鳴菩薩即從坐起，頂禮佛足合掌恭敬，向佛世尊而說偈言：

The commentary states: In general, gathering the various differing passages throughout the sūtras of [the Buddha's] entire teaching period, there are six kinds in all. What are the six? First, it is stated thus in the Mahāyāna Original Dharma Sūtra: When the Unsurpassed Great Awakened Honoured One spoke of the conditions of entering nirvāṇa, Bodhisattva Aśvaghoṣa immediately rose from his seat, bowed his head to the Buddha's feet, joined his palms in reverent devotion, and addressed the Buddha, the World-Honoured One, in verse:
