1.71

「『我過去世，忍辱仙人，住於此山，
六時行道。而一時瞋，因緣力故，
今得蛇身，常受大苦。若命終後，
得人同分，我當弟子，隨汝修行。
汝所讀誦，常我所誦，是故我今，
發大慚愧。』

"'In my past lives, I was an ascetic of patience,
Dwelling on this mountain,
Practicing the path at the six times of day.
Yet by the causal power of a single moment of anger,
I have now received the body of a serpent,
Constantly undergoing great suffering.
If after my life ends,
I attain the shared status of humanity,
I shall become your disciple,
Following you in practice.
What you read and recite
Was always what I recited;
Therefore, I now
Give rise to great shame.'"
