The treatise explains: The sixteen dharmic gateways of the access and the accessed are completely perfect and thoroughly equal, pervading the dharmadhātu without any difference. Why is this so? Because each subsumes all dharmas completely to the end, yet in the end root and branch, access and accessed, are not confused. The two gateways of the general and the particular have been explained. 'Because all Buddhas originally rode upon it, and because all bodhisattvas ride upon this dharma to reach the Tathāgata ground' is the immobile gateway of the rule of penetration. That is to say, past Buddhas as numerous as fine dust motes, present Buddhas as numerous as fine dust motes, and future Buddhas as numerous as fine dust motes all ride upon these thirty-two kinds of profound, peaceful carriages to reach the pure, unsurpassed ground. All bodhisattvas of the ten directions and the three times do likewise. Here, the word 'bodhisattva' inclusively encompasses all sentient beings of the three groups. Why is this so? Because there are no sentient beings who do not penetrate to the Tathāgata ground.
