Treatise: Unconditioned tathatā has two bases. What are the two? First, the common base, taking the fundamental dharma of the one mind, which is neither conditioned nor unconditioned, as its substance; second, the distinctive base, taking the tranquil dharma of principle within the gate of arising and ceasing as its substance. Unconditioned original awakening has two bases. What are the two? First, the common base, taking the fundamental dharma of the one mind, which is neither conditioned nor unconditioned, as its substance; second, the distinctive base, taking spontaneous fundamental cognition within the gate of arising and ceasing as its substance. Unconditioned initial awakening has two bases. What are the two? First, the common base, taking the fundamental dharma of the one mind, which is neither conditioned nor unconditioned, as its substance; second, the distinctive base, taking cognition arising in response to others within the gate of arising and ceasing as its substance. Unconditioned space has two bases. What are the two? First, the common base, taking the fundamental dharma of the one mind, which is neither conditioned nor unconditioned, as its substance; second, the distinctive base, taking non-existent entities within the gate of arising and ceasing as its substance. These are called the two bases. Furthermore, unconditioned tathatā has two kinds of function. What are the two? First, the common function, causing all dharmas to be produced; second, the distinctive function, causing the nature of equality not to be lost. Unconditioned original awakening has two kinds of function. What are the two? First, the common function, not keeping to its own nature; second, the distinctive function, not transforming. Unconditioned initial awakening has two kinds of function. What are the two? First, the common function, transforming in accordance with delusion; second, the distinctive function, counteracting one's own faults. Unconditioned space has two kinds of function. What are the two? First, the common function, causing existence to exist when desired; second, the distinctive function, causing the nature of empty non-existence not to be lost. These are called the two functions. In what is spoken of here, "common" refers to the sense of other, and "distinctive" refers to the sense of self. Based on these two expressions, one should examine broadly. The various distinctive characteristics will naturally be explained clearly when reaching the text. Taking what as their substance do the five kinds of conditioned [dharmas] exist? What functions do they have? The verse says:
