3.13

論曰：清淨始覺雖無惑時，而不守自性故，能受染熏隨緣流轉。以此義故，是故名為染淨始覺。以何義故強名真如？字事差別其相云何？頌曰：

The treatise says: Although pure initial awakening has no time of delusion, because it does not maintain its own nature, it can receive defiled perfuming and transmigrate according to conditions. By this meaning, it is therefore named 'defiled-and-pure initial awakening'. By what meaning is it forcibly named 'tathatā'? What is the character of the distinction in its literal meaning? The verse says:
