Having explained the portal of skillful means of practice, next is explained the portal of revealing the merits of generating the [bodhi-]mind. What meaning does this text clarify? It is intended to show that a bodhisattva of the stage of the initial generation of the [bodhi-]mind gives rise to a vast and perfect mind in accordance with the nature of the dharmadhātu. Through contemplative wisdom of resemblance, they perceive the body of the nature of dharmas (dharmakāya). Because they perceive the dharmakāya, the power of vows is sovereign. Due to the power of vows, they direct toward immeasurable and boundless sentient beings of the dharmadhātu and give rise to the mind of great compassion. Because the mind of great compassion is extremely profound, eight kinds of manifestations of transformation that bring peace and bliss appear, in accordance with time, place, appropriateness, and response, accordant and like reality, benefiting and bringing peace and bliss. Thus the original [text] states: 'Because the bodhisattva generates this mind, they attain seeing the dharmakāya to a small extent. Because of seeing the dharmakāya, in accordance with the power of their vows, they are able to manifest eight kinds of [actions that] benefit sentient beings, namely: descending from Tuṣita Heaven, entering the womb, abiding in the womb, emerging from the womb, leaving home, attaining enlightenment, turning the wheel of the Dharma, and entering nirvāṇa.'
