Having explained the approach of dhāraṇī mantras, next I shall explain the approach of sūtra recitation. For what reason is this approach established? It is to augment majestic spiritual power. How is this so? When those disciples of the Buddha apply antidotes through various approaches, if they did not require this approach of sūtra recitation, their power would be hard-pressed to counter [them]. If so, what sūtras are recited? Namely, the *Aṣṭa-dhātaka Sūtra*, the *Māradhūta Sūtra*, the *Pauśa Sūtra*, and so forth. Reciting these sūtras constitutes the approach of countering. For this reason the approach of sūtra recitation is established.
