The commentary says: This is the fifth [aspect], the virtue of constant mindfulness and sameness. It means that the Tathāgatas constantly follow recollection and mindfulness: whether regarding matter, place, manner, or time, whatever they do is entirely accompanied by right mindfulness. Universally regarding all actions and deeds, universally regarding all distinctions of direction and place, universally regarding all skillful means undertaken, and universally regarding all distinctions of time-periods, mindfulness is never forgotten and they constantly abide in right mindfulness; hence it is called “absence of forgotten mindfulness.” “Constantly abiding in equanimity” refers to the six states of constant abiding: at the six sense-doors, neither sorrowful nor joyful, they only give rise to right equanimity, contemplating objects with sameness.
