The Commentary says: Within the explanation of practice, the two sections below reveal the marks of cultivation and abandonment based on reflective contemplation. The first section is the unsurpassed dharma gate of truly pure offerings, because it cultivates offerings based on reflective contemplation; the second section is the dharma gate of the treasury of wisdom skillfully taming, because it removes anger and so forth based on reflective contemplation. This is the first [section]. Within it there are three: first, indicating the title of the dharma gate expounded. Regarding 'the truly pure vessel and field widely receiving offerings': because the Buddha's causal practice was complete in true offerings, being able to practice all practices of the true Dharma, at the time of attaining Buddhahood, all is fulfilled and the three actions are purely clean, so that he is capable of widely receiving the offerings of sentient beings. As a true vessel of the Dharma, serving as a truly pure field for all sentient beings, he is therefore called 'unsurpassed'. Although the two vehicles and the like are true fields of merit, they are not unsurpassed.
