The commentary says: From here below is the third aspect of practice, the practice of Dharma practices. 1. Copying; 2. Hearing; 3. Upholding: cherishing, treasuring, and not parting from it in mind, wishing to accompany it in the deportments of birth and death; 4. Reading; 5. Reciting; 6. Contemplating; 7. Practicing: practicing according to what has been taught; 8. Extensively expounding and distributing it for sentient beings; 9. Making offerings oneself; 10. Giving to others. These ten are named the practice of Dharma practices. Among these, performing it oneself, instructing others, praising, and rejoicing with appreciation are all attained. In making offerings, 'oneself' is spoken of only in contrast to giving to others. In reality, making offerings oneself, instructing others, praising, and rejoicing with appreciation all count as making offerings. Giving to others, copying, up to instructing others, giving to others, and praising—such matters are all named Dharma practices, and named making offerings. Those who engage in the ten Dharma practices obtain a heap of merit that is immeasurably supreme and inexhaustible, because they gather others without rest, as expounded at length in the Madhyāntavibhāga-śāstra.
