The Vajracchedikā Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra: this is indeed the vacant clarity of the threefold contemplation, the profound purport of the single reality. Formerly in the Rṣi's Park (Mṛgadāva), this maṇi-jewel did not yet shine; now in the Elder's Grove (Jetavana), this sweet dew is first sprinkled. Truly, because lesser aspirations opened first, they earlier galloped in [carts drawn by] goats and deer; only when the great resolve arose did they first mount this white bullock [cart]. This is indeed a model of the orthodox teaching, a luminous instruction for the bodhisattvas (mahāsattvas). Neither cloud nor rain, its virtue nourishes the four modes of birth; neither sun nor moon, its illumination shines upon the three realms. It unites the myriad practices, as the vast ocean receives the host of streams; it sweeps away confusion and divergence, as the winter frost withers the hundred grasses. If fully preserved according to the Sanskrit original, it should be called Vajra-prajñāpāramitā-sūtra. Translated into this land, it is: 'Vajra wisdom arrival at the other shore'. The sūtra makes clear that there is no burden it does not crush, hence it is called 'vajra'; there is no objective sphere it does not illuminate, hence it is designated 'prajñā'; eternally transcending this shore and that shore, it is named 'pāramitā'. 'Sūtra' (經) glosses 'standard' and 'constant'.
